Pokémon Tokyo Banana – Piplup Joins the Collaboration!

The Pokémon Company is collaborating with Tokyo Banana, a famous Japanese banana-shaped sponge cake with cream filling that happens to be Tokyo’s official souvenir sweet.

Tokyo Bananas come in many different flavors and the original flavor, Tokyo Banana Miitsuketa (見ぃつけたっ), is filled with a banana custard cream. The cream filling uses strained banana puree; after baking, the sponge cake is steamed to produce a soft texture. Tokyo Bananas are sold across stores in Japan and can be found in several major Japanese airports.

The Pokémon x Tokyo Banana collaboration first came to life last year and after a month, they released a limited run for Eevee. Almost a year later, Piplup joined the campaign.

Each box contains 8 Pokémon x Tokyo Bananas and each Pokémon has a total of 6 expressions and poses. Each box costs 1,242 yen ($8.97 USD).

The Pikachu Tokyo Banana is a banana custard cream flavor, while the Piplup is the same flavor but includes butter from Hokkaido.

The Pokémon x Tokyo Bananas can also be bought in a box of two for 297 yen (US$2.15).
